Have you ever wondered if God grieves this time of year during Christmas? Not because of just
confusing this season with Santa when it was intended to be about His son, but because as Christians try
to tell the Story of the gospel they do it with their version of commercialized Christmas as told by a mall
sales man. I mean even pastors do this butchering. We make the story about opening a gift as if some
way somehow Jesus was packed in a box under a tree and only if you decide to open that box then you
will be the lucky winner of salvation. Wow! This is the kind of thing I mean when I ask if you wonder
about grieving the heart of God.
Jesus did not come among us so we could tell His story and confuse it with gift giving. Jesus did not die
so we could make His story marketable. Jesus did not rise again so we could brag about a story that is
about prosperity. He came to make rescue possible. He came because of love, love for all humanity. We
need to recapture the essence of His story and not let an American, cash, hungry culture abuse the most
incredible story of all. We must reclaim the greatest story ever told and tell of its greatness by properly
depicting the joy of it as well as its gory and difficult moments. Jesus is about a cradle, a cross and major
cities(epicenters). This is an attempt to encourage people to center His story back on these images of
the cradle, the cross and the city. This is an attempt to raise awareness of sloppy, passionless story
telling. This is an attempt to channel people back to the scriptures and back to the heart of God. This is
an attempt to begin to recapture the greatest narrative of all, the story of Jesus, God among us –
Emmanuel!
All though this is just a beginning and by no means is it perfect or even nearly Comprehensive, I pray it
begins to be reconsidered as you weigh how you tell His story this Christmas and all year long. Merry
Christmas because Jesus is Christ, Lord of all creation, because He lives, the center of Christmas!
